Lenovo or Toshiba notebooks?

I'm looking at getting a new laptop, and I'm in australia so there isn't a "customize and buy" option on our toshiba website. I can find some things I like about certain toshiba laptops, but other things I don't, I can't find one that has everything I want. Lenovo does have this option, but I don't know if they are any good... I have a toshiba now and it's ****, but I think I got a lemon because I brought it from harvey norman, lol. I want to get a really good laptop, performance, reliability and make wise, I don't really care about what it looks like, for less than $3000. So what brand should I be looking at more?
